M.A.D Day - Creating a Community Garden/Allotment at Volun-tees

Helping create a community garden /allotment

Date 2 May 2018 (4 hours)
Location Beechwood, Middlesbrough, Cleveland
Description

Recovery Connections (Recovery Connections provide support for people who wish to go down an abstinence based approach to their drug and alcohol problems) are trying to create a community garden within Beechwood Allotments in Middlesbrough. It will be there for everyone in the Community to enjoy, however it requires a few more ‘hands on deck’ to make our vision possible. The Community Garden is meant to be a relaxing and safe place for everyone in the Community can enjoy and will become self-sufficient when other organisations and services and people of the public see it coming along and wanting to get involved.
The day plan will be
• to complete out set of raised beds out of timber so that the community have places that they can grow, fruit, vegetables and flowers- these will need filling with compost and topsoil
• To create a pathway with weed membrane and woodchips/gravel
• To create a beautiful labyrinth/sensory garden made from wood, plants and gravel
• To ensure all the grass and trees are cut back and are neat and tidy
You will be working with our staff to help to create this vision which will help to get others involved in the area as well as help us set up for our Summer Community BBQ’s and Easter events.
