Description

You can be involved in the planning and organisation of a particular event or maybe just help out at an event. There may also be the opportunity to lead a team of volunteers in organising and running events. The Festival of Wellbeing is our main event in Oct/Nov when we need lots of volunteers. However we run an annual programme of different health related activities and campaigns throughout the year. I am also interested in hearing students' own ideas.
Gain experience of organising and delivering health promotion activities and campaigns around smoking, alcohol, healthy eating, sexual health, mental health etc. This is an excellent opportunity for students with a public health element to their course, e.g. Nursing, O.T., Public Health, Food Science, Sports Science. However students studying marketing or business courses may be interested in getting involved.
Mostly 1- 4 hour sessions, but any amount of time you can give will be a help. There will be basic free accredited training available including the Level 2 RSPH Health Improvement certificate. However, for anyone interested in a specific health issue we work with a number of external service providers and can offer more specific training, e.g. smoking cessation advisor, L2 brief intervention, Mental health first aid, Level 2 Cancer: prevention and early detection and many more.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Teamwork
  • Problem solving/Creativity
  • Planning/Organising
  • Leadership/Management
  • Communication Skills
  • Advice and Guidance
  • Marketing
  • Design
  • Graphic Design/Logo
  • Sport

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:
