I currently volunteer with Middlesbrough Citizens Advice Bureau as a Microsoft 365 and Okta Support Volunteer.  I chose to volunteer with Middlesbrough CAB as the role aligns with my future career plans. Through volunteering, I have gained technical expertise, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and it has honed my patience and empathy, allowing me to better understand and address the needs and concerns of others. Managing my responsibilities in these roles has considerably improved my time management skills, ensuring I can balance multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently and effectively.

For me, it is incredibly fulfilling to see the relief and joy wash over someone's face when their problem is solved, or they finally understand what to do next. It goes beyond simply fixing something, it is about building connections and feeling like I belong to something bigger. It reinforces my sense of purpose and reminds me of the positive change we can create when we come together to support those around us. Seeing the impact of my efforts motivates me to learn new things and expand my knowledge, making me a more valuable asset in all aspects of life.

Aspiring volunteers should consider their passions and the skills they wish to develop before jumping in. This will lead you to a cause that you genuinely believe in. Choose the opportunity that works with your schedule and be reasonable about the amount of time you can dedicate to it.

Never be afraid to ask questions - getting clarity is preferable to making mistakes. Being dependable is essential. Accepting new experiences and engaging in volunteering can extend your views and horizons.
