During my time at university, I have undertaken volunteering with two different organisations.

Firstly, I have volunteered with Stockton Citizens Advice Bureau. I chose to volunteer with Stockton CAB to help to contribute to the growth and well-being of the community that I am now part of. I feel that I have helped the already successful, professional team add value to peoples lives. During my time at Stockton CAB, I have met with clients on a one-to-one basis, advising them on the different welfare benefits that are available to them, helping them to make applications,  and have liaised with various organisations on their behalf in order to help them resolve their issues. I have helped the clients to make informed decisions by enlightening them on the need to express their individual legal rights.

I have also volunteered with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, James Cook University Hospital, helping with administrative duties, under the supervision of the hospital staff. My duties include meeting patients and helping them with the check-in process for on-line appointments and also checking them in at reception and booking any further appointments and making any required cancellations

Through volunteering, I have learnt the core principles of professionalism and work ethics whilst developing transferable skills, such as client relationships, effective communication, analytical thinking, problem solving and working under pressure, to name but a few. I have also gained experience in using specialist software at James Cook Hospital and at Stockton CAB. I have really enjoyed the personal interaction with people from all walks of life. For anyone considering volunteering,  I would advise to be diligent and comply with the work ethics of the organisation and give your absolute best as volunteering can be a great influence in your career development!
