Come and Do Good, Feel Good and help to turn crisp packets into sleeping bags as part of the Nitelight Crisp Packet Project.

What You'll Do:

On the 5th February we will meet near the Student Life Building Reception desk at 13:30pm.

We will take a taxi to the Nitelight centre in Southbank, Middlesbrough.

Arriving at 2pm, we will start to volunteer.

You will be creating sleeping bags, blankets and other items to help keep the homeless and struggling individuals warm. These items are given out at our free market stalls to anyone who requests one.

This process involves taking empty crisp packets, cleaning them, overlapping the foil with other crisp packets and fusing them together using an iron and a sheet of special paper. This is done repeatedly until you end up with the finished product.

Following our volunteering, we will then take a taxi back to campus and arrive around 5pm.

Why You'll Love It:
You'll love this because it's very practical, involves arts & crafts and contributes towards a cause of helping people. You will be volunteering with the volunteering team and fellow volunteers. It is a great chance to meet new people, have great communication and make new friends. For those who may not have volunteered before, this is a great chance to kick start your volunteering journey.
What You'll Learn:
You'll learn how to create your own crisp packet items and use that knowledge to share with others. This may highlight the perspective of how much some homeless people struggle on a day-to-day basis.
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for people who enjoy arts & crafts and enjoy working in groups. We also want people who are passionate about helping others.   Volunteers who are committed. As the University is providing transport, we ask that you only sign up if you are able to make it.
