What You'll Do:

As a Volunteer Driver you will offer your time to transport a diverse client group using your own vehicle. Our client group includes passengers who will be referred through community groups and local organisations or statutory services.

Journeys are local to Stockton-on-Tees and offer a lifeline for passengers to access services and activities that could improve both their physical and mental health and well-being including medical appointments and social groups. Journeys may be requested to ‘out of area’ hospitals such as James Cook and Hartlepool Hospitals. This role is flexible, and you can volunteer as often or as little as you are able to.

The flexibility of the volunteer role means you will be encouraged to engage with an online booking system, allowing you to choose the most convenient and efficient journeys to suit your commitment. There will be a member of staff from Volunteering Matters overseeing the journey bookings and updating passenger requests.

Supervision and support

All volunteers receive supervisory support from a Volunteer Co-Ordinator, to see how you are getting on, giving an opportunity to give feedback, discuss any problems, ideas or queries you may have. Staff and other volunteers are also available daily to support you if needed.

Expenses

You can claim mileage incurred when volunteering for our Volunteer Driver service. Mileage is 50p per mile for the first 10,000 miles, 25p thereafter each financial year. Our online booking system will record journeys completed and automate the Expense Claim process.  There is an alternative method of claiming expenses which can be discussed with the Co-Ordinator if required. Reimbursement of volunteers’ expenses is agreed with the Co-Ordinator.

As a Volunteer Driver you will:

  1. Use your own vehicle for volunteering and provide current valid insurance and MOT certification appropriate for volunteering use.

  1. Receive mandatory training and refresher training, as necessary.

  1. Be a trustworthy, reliable, and positive influence when volunteering.

  1. Be provided with access to an online booking system, allowing straightforward recording of mileage incurred and access to journey logs and information.

  1. Adhere to confidentiality, safety, boundaries, and other requirements detailed in training.

  1. Maintain good communication with Project Staff and report any concerns, incidents, and safeguarding concerns.

  1. Sign a Volunteer Agreement confirming your commitment to Volunteering Matters policies, and understating Volunteering Matters commitment to you and your requirements.

  1. Complete an enhanced DBS check and provide references contact details.
