A placement with Cleveland School Sport Partnership gives you hands-on experience delivering school sport, supporting events, and working with schools and partners, while developing the skills needed for a career in sports development & education.

What You'll Do:

During the volunteering, you will support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of school sport and physical activity programmes across primary and secondary schools. You will help deliver sessions, support competitions, festivals, and events, and work directly with children and young people.

You will also support the day-to-day running of programmes through administrative tasks such as data collection, monitoring participation, and communicating with schools and partners. Alongside delivery, you will contribute to the organisation’s website and social media by helping create content, promote activities, and share the impact of our work.

The volunteering will give you experience of partnership working, safeguarding, and inclusive practice, while developing key skills including communication, leadership, organisation, and professionalism. You will be supported by experienced staff and given opportunities to take responsibility and build confidence.

By the end of the volunteering, you will have practical experience of sports development within schools, alongside valuable digital and communication experience, helping prepare you for future employment in sport, education, or community settings.

Why You'll Love It:
You’ll love this volunteering because it combines hands-on delivery with real insight into how sports development organisations operate. You won’t just be observing—you’ll actively support the delivery of school sport and physical activity, help run events, and work directly with children and young people in schools. Alongside delivery, you’ll gain valuable experience supporting our website and social media platforms. You’ll help create content, share success stories, promote events, and showcase the impact of our work—developing practical digital and communication skills that are highly valued by employers. The volunteering offers variety, with no two days the same. You’ll spend time in schools, at events, and working behind the scenes with partners and professionals, building confidence, leadership, and organisational skills. You’ll be supported and mentored throughout, with opportunities to take on responsibility and shape your experience. Most importantly, you’ll see the impact of your work first-hand—helping young people enjoy being active, build confidence, and develop positive habits for life. By the end of the placement, you’ll have meaningful experience, professional references, and a strong foundation for a career in sport, education, or community development.
What You'll Learn:
During the volunteering, you will develop a strong understanding of sports development within school and community settings. You will learn how high-quality, inclusive physical activity programmes are planned, delivered, and evaluated to meet the needs of different schools and young people. You will gain practical skills in session delivery, event organisation, and working safely and professionally with children and young people. You will also learn how partnerships with schools, coaches, and local organisations are built and maintained. Alongside delivery, you will develop valuable transferable skills, including communication, leadership, organisation, and time management. You will gain experience in data collection, monitoring impact, and using insight to improve practice. You will also learn how digital platforms support sports development, gaining experience in website content, social media, and promoting programmes effectively. By the end of the volunteering, you will have increased confidence, real-world experience, and a clearer understanding of career pathways within sport, education, and community development.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated students who are keen to gain real-world experience in sport, physical activity, and youth development. You should have a genuine interest in working with children and young people and a positive attitude towards learning and personal development. We value students who are reliable, organised, and professional, with a willingness to take initiative and work as part of a team. Strong communication skills are important, as you will be working with schools, partners, and young people in a variety of settings. We are also looking for students who share our commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and equality, and who want to help create positive, welcoming experiences for all participants. An interest in sport, physical activity, education, or community development is essential, while previous experience in schools, coaching, or volunteering is beneficial but not required. Most importantly, we are looking for students who are enthusiastic, open to feedback, and eager to make a positive difference while developing the skills and confidence needed for a future career.
