What You'll Do:

Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs)

This important role helps the PCC check on the welfare of people in custody.

ICVs visit Cleveland Police’s custody suites unannounced to check on the welfare and treatment of people detained there.

They check on the conditions in which detainees are being held and that their rights and entitlements are being observed.

Volunteers make a minimum of six visits per year. Visiting in pairs, IVCs talk to detainees and submit reports about their visits.

All applications to join the ICV scheme are considered on their own merits. The OPCC is looking for applications from all sectors of the community.  It assesses individual circumstances against the needs of the post and suitability of the applicant.

Prior to starting in role, suitable applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

Why You'll Love It:
You get to go into custody at any time that suits you (on your alloted week) and check on the welfare and rights of those people detained in theree.
What You'll Learn:
How custody operates, what we check for to make sure people are being treated correctly, what to look for and how to fill in forms to ensure visits are documented.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for inquisitive and observant people who are good at dealing with members of the public.
