Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers who play a pivotal role in Cleveland.
ROLE NOT AVAILABLE TO NON-EU STUDENTS

What You'll Do:

Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers who play a pivotal role in Cleveland.

Becoming a Special Constable gives you the chance to work alongside regular Police Officers and Police Staff, bringing skills and experiences from your day job and allowing you to give something back to the area.

It’s challenging and worth the while, after all, you’ll have to give up at least 16 hours of your spare time each month.  As part of the role you’ll be helping to protect and support Cleveland and the diverse people who make up the local population.

Special Constables are involved in all aspects of policing Cleveland, enjoying a variety of roles and carrying out duties.

As a Special, you’ll make a real difference to Cleveland by reducing crime - and the fear of crime – across the area, whilst gaining unique experiences you simply can’t get anywhere else. If you have the spare time, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend it.

Why You'll Love It:
This role is what we call the try before you buy offer, meaning that many of our Specials having had this volunteer experience then go on to apply as regular police officers and gain paid employment here.
What You'll Learn:
You will learn everything from how to arrest people, to how to deal with conflicts in neighbourhoods, to road traffic incident scene maintenance right through to how to handle Domestic Abuse incidents and share Claires Law Disclosures often with vulnerable people.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for mature people with common sense and who are fit and well so can pass the 5.4 bleep test here.  We welcome people from all backgrounds with lived experience here and who wish to support our regular force.
