Stalking is a horrific crime affecting 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men. We want your help raising awareness of stalking amongst school students and to try and prevent it from happening.

What You'll Do:

We have developed an assembly about stalking and healthy relationships for secondary schools and we are looking for volunteers to deliver these in association with the Durham Constabulary.

If you consider yourself to be an outgoing and engaging person, this is a great opportunity to be a part of a team committed to children and young people’s safeguarding.

We would ask you to attend an initial chat to check that you are suitable for the role and a short training session in advance of delivering assemblies to make sure that you are comfortable with the material. You will also need to participate in an enhanced DBS check, but this will be managed by the Trust.

Why You'll Love It:
You have the oppotunity to be a part of a really exciting project in Durham and Darlington that aims to tackle stalking head on, to try and prevent people from having to experience this horrific crime which, it it's most extreme cases, leads to death.   You will lead our impactful assembly and talk to students about acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, how it is ok to be uncomfortable about someone's behaviour, and helping them to have the confidence to come forward and ask for help.   Through our assemblies, we already know of young people who have felt able to ask for help with situations they are in and that is down to the power of our volunteers and our messages.
What You'll Learn:
This volunteering role will help you to build your confidence in public speaking, working with young people, and give you a foundation in stalking. It is great for anyone studying criminology, psychology, or is interested in a career in Violence Against Women and Girls or in education.
What We're Looking For:
We would ask you to attend an initial chat to check that you are suitable for the role and a short training session in advance of delivering assemblies to make sure that you are comfortable with the material. You will also need to participate in an enhanced DBS check, but this will be managed by the Trust.     Access to a car is an advantage, but not essential. Previous facilitation experience is also desirable, but passion and enthusiasm are most important. Travel costs will be covered up to a certain amount.
