We're looking for volunteers to work as part of our media team, with opportunities to specialise in sports writing, filming, editing, or social media engagement.

What You'll Do: 

The Media Student (s) will work collaboratively with our media team to assist in producing high-quality content for Darlington FC. This includes contributing to match reports, videography, social media, and interviews, with the opportunity to specialize in areas of interest such as writing, filming, editing, or social media management.

This placement is designed to help students develop their skills while being supported by experienced professionals.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The volunteers will collaborate with other members of our media team and gain experience across several areas.  Key tasks to be done include:

 

  • Match Day Coverage:
    • Assisting in pre-match, live, and post-match coverage, including live updates, social media posts, and writing match reports.
    • Supporting video capture and editing for match highlights and key moments, with mentoring provided.

  • Content Creation:
    • Contributing to the filming and editing of videos, including player and management interviews, training footage, and behind-the-scenes content.
    • Assisting in the production of pre- and post-match reaction videos for our website and social channels.
    •  
  • Social Media:
    • Supporting social media content creation under the guidance of our experienced media team.
    • Opportunity to develop skills in managing and updating platforms like X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

  • Training Session Coverage:
    • Attending Thursday night training sessions to help capture content for video and social media use.
    •  

Skill Development:

  • The student will have the opportunity to focus on specific areas of media, whether writing, videography, social media management, or editing, with support and mentorship from the team.

What We're Looking For: 
Requirements: Currently studying a degree in media, journalism, digital media, or a related field. Passion for football and an interest in sports media. Strong written and communication skills. Basic knowledge of videography, photography, or editing (training will be provided). Availability: Must be available for match days (home and away) and Thursday night training sessions. Ability to work in a team and take direction from experienced staff. Passion for working in sports and media, with a willingness to get stuck in as part of a team. Desirable Skills: Knowledge of social media platforms and engagement strategies. Familiarity with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, etc.) is a plus. Experience with live streaming or commentary is beneficial but not essential. Being prepared to give suggestions and examples of great practice that can elevate the work of the current team.
