Join our volunteers of all ages and backgrounds from 9am to 4pm any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to carry out practical conservation tasks in Durham, Tees and the surrounding countryside.

Contact us: 07 483050765 or north-east@tcv.org.uk

What You'll Do:

Our tasks vary with the seasons. In winter we enjoy tree planting, woodland thinning, coppicing and hedge laying. In autumn and spring we do a fair bit of pond maintenance and pond creation, and in summer we are busy clearing invasive plant species from habitats and cutting/raking hay meadows. At any time of year we also do small scale construction projects such as improving footpaths, building fences, boardwalks or footbridges.

If you use Facebook or Instagram you can follow @TCV_North_East where we post pictures of our practical conservation work and an update every Friday evening outlining plans for the week ahead. Alternatively, we can send you a weekly email if you request to be put on our mailing list.

Why You'll Love It:
You will gain valuable experience in the outdoor and conservation sector. We want volunteers to take advantage of the variety of practical consevation activities we program and enjoy meeting new or familiar faces.   The conservation work we program should equip you with the skills you need to find jobs once out of education.
What You'll Learn:
You will learn how to complete a variety of practical conservation tasks, providing you with the skills neccassary to continue in this sector.
What We're Looking For:
Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather bearing in mind you will be outdoors for most of the day, wear sturdy footwear (not trainers) preferably with reinforced toe-cap and bring a packed lunch, drinking water and a mug for a hot drink. We provide any personal protective equipment needed and all tools, equipment and guidance. We also provide biscuits and hot drinks.   No knowledge or experience is necessary. All tasks are fully supervised, insured, risk assessed and have first aid cover.
