To volunteer along with the volunteering team on the 16th July 2025 with the Friends of Linthorpe Cemetery and Nature Reserve

What You'll Do:

We will meet at the Student Life Reception Desk on Wednesday 16th July at 9:30pm.

We will all walk together (it takes about 20-25minutes) to Linthorpe Cemetery.

We will meet the team for a short introduction and welcome brief before our tasks are allocated.

Volunteering will include things like; litter picking, cleaning windows, maintaining the area and car parks, clipping, weeding, planting, painting - a whole range of tasks and duties.

Please bring a lunch and drink with you although there will be cake, tea and biscuits when we stop at lunchtime.

Please also dress appropriately for the weather.

We will finish at 2pm and walk back to the University.

Why You'll Love It:
The volunteering team have met with the Friends of the Cemetery and what a lovely group of welcoming people they are. You are made to feel like part of the team straight away. Everyone is happy to chat and share their stories. A great sense of community spirit and belonging. We left the meeting with big smiles on our faces and can't wait to help them on the 16th July.    You will meet new people, you will feel like part of a team.
What You'll Learn:
The Friends of Linthorpe Cemetery and Nature Reserve are dedicated to the preservation of Linthorpe Cemetery. The group was formed in 1996 and is made up of people from the local community and beyond. The group aims to preserve and enhance Linthorpe Cemetery and nature reserve for residents to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the largest piece of mature woodland in the centre of Middlesbrough. Linthorpe Cemetery also has an important role to play in educating people about the history and natural history of the cemetery and the town. The Friends have helped to raise money from the Heritage Lottery Fund with the help of Middlesbrough Environment City and Middlesbrough Council. This has made several restoration projects possible, including new paths, new gates, fencing, and a sculpture, as well as the restoration of the Hebrew prayer house and the old mortuary which once belonged to the old fever hospital on West Lane. The group provides valuable support with enhancing and maintaining the cemetery and nature reserve, as well as educating members of the public with activities throughout the year, like history and wildlife walks.
What We're Looking For:
