Tees Women Poets
We bring women of all backgrounds together to write and perform poetry, supporting them to grow their confidence, improve their mental wellbeing, and take up space. A woman's place is on stage!
ABOUT US:

We are intersectional feminists, running projects, programmes and professional development opportunities for poets. Originally a reheasal club for women wanting to perform their poetry at open mics, we now run annual programmes of free/low cost activities such as writing workshops, performance playspaces, a spoken word boot camp for emerging performance poets, paid residencies, CPD training for workshop facilitators, outreach workshops for people with lived experience of poverty or domestic violence, print and digital anthologies, filmpoems and  festival performance opportunities.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

We are the only organisation in Teesside working specifically with poetry, performance and women to provide multiple creative routes to self-expression, personal and professional growth.

OUR VALUES:
feminism
intersectionality
diversity & inclusion
sisterhood
creative excellence
self-expression
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We look for passionate, creative, knowledgeable women with a belief in the arts as a lever for personal and social change, and a commitment to intersectional, transinclusive feminism.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

We are truly non-judgemental and welcoming of all participants - our 100+ poets are from all backgrounds and all areas of Teesside, including unusually high percentages of working class writers, and disabled/neurodiverse poets.
