The Bowes Museum
A forward-thinking museum of artists, designers and makers, and with a spirit of generosity and collaboration, The Bowes Museum’s mission is centred around support and uplifting the North of England.
ABOUT US:

Standing in the heart of Teesdale, The Bowes Museum is the vision of a pioneering woman, Joséphine Bowes and her husband John. Designed in the style of a French chateau and housing over 15,000 objects, the museum was opened to the public in 1892. Today, The Bowes Museum is a charity managing a Grade 1 listed, accredited museum and 22 acres of Grade 2 listed parkland. The museum continues to reflect the vision and spirit of Joséphine and John Bowes, with changing exhibitions, exciting events and displays of vast, internationally renowned collection of works, including paintings and ceramics.

We offer volunteering opportunties across most departments: whether you're looking for behind-the-scenes experience, or want to work directly with visitors, there's an opportunity for everyone.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

There’s no prior experience required to volunteer at The Bowes Museum. We’re looking for people who are curious and ready to learn. People are at the heart of what we do, so if you like meeting people, sparking conversations or protecting objects for future generations, please get in touch.

We offer volunteering positions in a number of roles, including conservation, exhibition stewards, visitor welcome, learning team, gallery storytelling and events.
