Mend It Don’t Rag It exists to challenge the idea that damaged or unwanted clothing should be thrown away. We believe that repair and reuse are powerful tools for reducing textile waste and protecting the environment. By fixing, adapting, and upcycling garments, we help keep clothing out of landfill and give it a longer, more useful life. At the heart of Mend It Don’t Rag It is sustainability. Every garment repaired saves water, energy, and resources that could be used to make something new. Our work supports a circular approach to fashion, where clothes are valued, cared for, and reused rather than treated as disposable items.
ABOUT US:

Mend It Don’t Rag It is about making a real difference. Each repair, adaptation, or upcycled garment helps reduce clothing waste and supports a more sustainable future. Through volunteering, skill-building, and shared action, we are empowering people to take positive steps for the environment while strengthening connections within the community.

We are looking for volunteers to help with sewing repair tasks. This includes sorting clothes, repairing garments, and making simple adaptations so items can be reused. Tasks are broken into small steps, and support is available.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Community is central to everything we do. We create welcoming, inclusive spaces where people can learn, share skills, and work together. Volunteers are supported at every stage, whatever their experience or confidence level. We believe everyone has something to contribute and that learning should happen at a pace that feels right for each person.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We are looking for anyone over the age of 18 with "some sewing experience".

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

We have a pathway through this Volunteering Programme to move you towards the labour market. When volunteering here you will be within a real working manufacturing environment so you will begin to build real work experience whilst you study!
