The Language Cafe is a friendly and informal drop-in cafe for all international and home students and staff. It provides an opportunity to meet new people and learn about different cultures. International students can also use it to practice their English, seek support and advice, and share experiences in a fun and welcoming environment.
Our work matters because it is a safe environment for International students to come and meet other students, develop long lasting friendships, learn about each others' culture, receive valuable information on academic life, part-time jobs, university and local events, and to be able to practice and impove their English language speaking and listening skills, as well as their social skills.
We are seeking volunteers who are open to working with people of different nationalities and language backgrounds, have an interest in different cultures and preferably English language tuition, but not essential. You will be required to assist the organiser in setting up refreshments, games, and to engage with the international student attendees of the English Language Café by having conversations about university life, local area and culture, and to answer any questions the students might have.
