The Carrying of Passengers is Forbidden
We aim to uncover the hidden history and heritage of the Invalid Carriage and its users.
ABOUT US:

The Carrying of Passengers is Forbidden is a National Lottery Heritage Fund research project led by Simon McKeown, Reader in the School of Computing, Media and the Arts at Teesside University, in association with Disability North.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

People with disabilities is the largest minority group but its history and heritage is vulnerable. The vehicles at the centre of this project were discontinued a generation ago. Few examples of them remain. Likewise, the people who have firsthand experience of using them become more scarce with each passing year. The story of the Invalid Carriage is one of the fight for equal rights, dignity and inclusion, Therefore, "The Carrying of Passengers is Forbidden" wants to preserve the vehicles and the stories which go with them.
