North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust was formed when North Tees Health NHS Trust and Hartlepool and East Durham NHS Trust merged on 1 April 1999. North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust was authorised as a NHS Foundation Trust in December 2007.
We provide a wide range of health and healthcare services across and beyond our catchment area.
The trust has two hospitals:
- The University Hospital of Hartlepool
- The University Hospital of North Tees
We have been providing care for patients in the community since 2008. We provide these services in a number of community facilities across the areas supported, including Peterlee Community Hospital, Lawson Street Stockton and the One Life Centre Hartlepool.
We have almost 400 dedicated volunteers supporting the trust who work tirelessly to enhance the experience of our patients and visitors when accessing our services. Our volunteers make a huge difference to our staff, patients and visitors and we are very grateful for their efforts.
We encourage, value and support the efforts of individuals who give their time and energy to benefit the Trust and our patients.
We welcome applications for volunteering from across our community and know that volunteers bring with them a diversity of experiences, backgrounds, skills, ages and outlooks which offer added value to our Trust services.

What do volunteers do?
Volunteering roles at the Trust are varied, interesting and rewarding. Our volunteers help with a wide range of tasks including:
•Meeting and greeting patients and visitors
•Driving patients to and from hospital
•Befriending, talking and listening to patients
•Supporting patients during mealtimes
•Recreational activities with patients, such as reading and playing games
We look for volunteers that are caring, compassionate and committed to help us enhance the experience our patients receive whilst in our care.
Our Opportunities
We are recruiting Discharge Support Volunteers and Volunteer Responders to join our growing volunteer team.
