WOODS & WAVES FOREST AND BEACH SCHOOL CIC
To create a future generation who have a strong connection to nature and respect and care for the natural environment, who are resilient, curious, and confident learners. We follow the Forest School principles, and believe that our vision can be achieved by; Providing a natural environment for learners to explore, either in a woodland, at the coast, or in another natural environment. Delivering sessions regularly to enable learners to benefit fully from the forest school approach, and to allow practitioners to plan, observe, adapt, and review, in turn informing future programme development. Running sessions led by qualified Forest and Coastal school Leaders who seek to continually update their knowledge and skills and who regularly reflect on their own learning and practice. Responding to the needs and interests of learners through a learner-led pedagogical approach where the vital role of play and choice is central and supporting learners’ holistic development by providing opportunities for social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual growth. Enabling learners to take supported risks and make their own decisions, recognising that this promotes resilience and raises self-esteem. Providing sessions where families experience and learn about nature together, enabling relationships to be strengthened.
ABOUT US:

We run Forest and Beach School sessions throughout various locaions in Redcar and Cleveland.

We have various sessions, from babies through to 12 year old (14 years for SEND children), we run SEND specific session too which allow a smaller group number and an increased level of support. Children and YP are accompanied by a parent/carer at all sessions.

We are a new company, run by three directors and currently with only one employee.

The company was set up as a Community Interest Company to enable it to be accessible to those on lower incomes, we apply for grants to support the work we do.

Our approach is one of participant-led learning, we offer activities, but also encourage participants to follow their own interests and ideas, and to solve problems and manage risk within a supported environment. This approach aims to increase confidence and resilience and enable participants to see themselves as valued individuals and team members.

We aim to increase people’s connection with nature by encouraging participants to be curious about their natural environment, and use the leader’s knowledge, as well as books, and identification resources to learn about the local flora and fauna.

We aim to develop a community of learning, through regular attendance at our sessions we have witnessed families forming friendships, offering each other support, showing commitment to completing joint tasks, and valuing one another’s contribution to the group.
