Durham Sixth Form Centre
Our mission is to empower volunteers to make a meaningful impact on the educational journey of Year 12 and Year 13 students at Durham Sixth Form Centre.
ABOUT US:

Our scheme offers volunteers the opportunity to act as mentors to Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing academic support in subjects aligned with their degree or A-level qualifications. Whether it's through virtual meetings or on-site sessions, our mentors receive comprehensive training and access to resources provided by subject heads of departments. By tailoring schedules to fit around their studies, our volunteers can engage in fulfilling mentorship experiences while balancing their academic commitments.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Our work matters because it not only enhances the educational outcomes of students but also enriches the personal and professional development of our volunteers. By participating in our scheme, volunteers bolster their CVs, expand their networks, and refine essential skills such as leadership, communication, and coaching.

THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
We take immense pride in the testimonials and feedback from past students and volunteers, which serve as a testament to the meaningful impact of our mentorship program. Testimonials such as:
Testimonial 1: "It was an amazing scheme. I hope my mentee found it useful because I benefited greatly as well. The staff and students have been kind, and communication has always been excellent. I can't fault it."
Testimonial 2: "I enjoyed my experience in this mentoring scheme and learned a lot from tutoring my student. Helping students with their studies and tailoring my teaching methods to their needs has been very rewarding.
Testimonial 3: "It has been a very good opportunity to build various skills related to teaching. I received ample support and continued to use skills developed at A-Level, which was very rewarding."
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We seek individuals who are passionate about education, dedicated to making a difference, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Our ideal volunteers demonstrate empathy, adaptability, and a willingness to invest time and effort in supporting the academic success and personal growth of others.
