RNID
Supporting people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus
ABOUT US:
We’re here for the 18 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.
With our communities, we’ll change society to make it more inclusive for everyone, help people hear better now and fund world-class research.
We work with our communities and partners across health, employment, research, government and more to change life for the better.
WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:
Our communities are huge: 1 in 3 adults in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.
If our work doesn’t directly impact you, it will almost certainly be making a difference for someone you know and love.
OUR VALUES:
Connected
We’re naturally collaborative with colleagues and partners, and deeply connected to our communities.
Passionate
We’re passionate about our purpose, and dynamic and ambitious about making change happen.
Insightful
We’re grounded in evidence and insight, meaning we’re confident in who we are and what we do.
Curious
We’re innovative, outward looking and open minded in everything we do.
OUR AWARDS:
We achieved the Investing in Volunteers quality mark in 2023 for the work we do with volunteers across the UK.
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
RNID has a proud history and big ambitions. From collaborating on the first cochlear implant developed in the UK, to campaigning for the Government’s first BSL Act in 2022, we’ve worked with our communities for over one hundred years – and changed the lives of millions.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:
- You’ll need to provide the names of 2 referees who’ve known you for at least 2 years,
- Willingness to learn about issues affecting deaf people and people with hearing loss or tinnitus – particularly older people.
- Friendly, reliable and an approachable manner.
- Happy to work with a wide range of people.
HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:
As a volunteer you will make a real difference to the people you support.
- Receive training and learn new skills.
- Meet people in different situations.
- Raise awareness of deafness in the community.
- Have reasonable, out-of-pocket and pre-approved travel expenses repaid.
