The TEALS (Technology Education and Learning Support) programme in the UK is to increase access to high-quality computing education for students who are underserved or underrepresented in computing. The TEALS programme is supported by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, Microsoft and the Hg Foundation.
ABOUT US:

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is a professional body and learned society dedicated to promoting and advancing information technology since 1957. With over 70,000 members across 150 countries, we are committed to ensuring everyone's experience with technology is positive.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

By pairing industry professionals with classroom teachers, TEALS aims to enrich computing lessons, enhance student engagement, and accelerate the professional development of computing teachers. The programme seeks to bridge the computer science education gap, inspire more diverse students to pursue careers in technology, and equip young people with the skills needed to navigate a world transformed by AI. Ultimately, TEALS aspires to create a lasting impact on computing education in the UK, fostering a new generation of technologically literate and empowered students

OUR VALUES:
Increasing access to high-quality computing education for underserved and underrepresented students
Empowering students by enriching computing lessons and enhancing teacher development
Bridging the gap in computer science education and addressing the shortage of computer science specialists in schools
Boosting students' knowledge, skills, and understanding of digital careers
Creating a lasting impact on computing education by increasing computing capacity in schools
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
We have delivered a successful pilot of this programme in the 2023-2024 academic year with 10 schools and we are now expanding the programme
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We look for volunteers who have a Computer Science or equivilent degree in IT, who are keen to inspire young people to pursue careers in the digital space.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

The TEALS programme provides volunteers with direct work, face to face or hybrid, with young people over a period of time.  This enables effective relationships to be built in the classroom with teachers and the class as well as promote role models, careers and also real-world applications.
