MEC is one of the original 'Environment Cities' created in the early 1990s. We're based on the old Nature's World site in Acklam. Our projects tackle things like climate action, food insecurity and reducing food waste, community growing, affordable warmth and sustainable travel.
MEC offers its passion and 30+ years of experience working hand in hand with local people, businesses, and voluntary organisations to our volunteering opportunities. We are committed to bringing practical, eco-friendly solutions to everyday life; reducing waste, promoting green energy and encouraging healthier lifestyles. Our projects make a real difference where it matters most.
We look for volunteers who are community-minded, curious, and ready to make a difference — whether by sharing skills, supporting others, or helping us build inclusive, locally-rooted programmes that improve lives and strengthen connections.
Our Opportunities
Action Champions provide flexible, task‑based support wherever it’s needed. There is no fixed time commitment - volunteers help when they can.
As an Energy Champion with our Affordable Warmth team, you’ll be central to helping people who are experiencing fuel poverty.
As a Wellbeing Champion, you’ll help deliver welcoming, hands‑on food workshops - supporting individuals and families with friendly guidance and helping to create an inclusive space where everyone feels encouraged and supported.
