It is time to shine a light on Chidera Keren Goodluck-Oputa. A wonderful volunteer who gained a Gold Plus award at the recent volun-cheers event for volunteering a staggering 143 hours. “I have volunteered with different organisations, and I am happy to be able to give back to my immediate community and society at large. To mention a few organisations, I have work with are; Middlesbrough Council as Language Support. Literacy Pirates, which involved working with young children to support their reading and writing skills.  Jane Tomlinson’s Run for All Charity as a Route Marshal. I am also a Student Buddy, assisting fellow students to succeed.

With the understanding and uttermost desire to serve, I enjoy living a life of service where I can support, assist, and make a meaningful difference to people's lives. These organisations and more, reflect my beliefs and principles on the need to support your host community and make a positive impact. I have gained incredible knowledge and experience from these organisations, and I look forward to more beautiful times together.

Typical days for me include supporting events and individuals, assisting in maintaining the prospect and purpose of the event by delivering appropriate needs to the public.

I have learned a lot through volunteering. If I had to sum this up, it would be living a life of service and simplicity to my host community and knowing this is an honourable act to do to support individual lives. Alongside this, I have developed my communication, management and active listening skills which will all help me to succeed in my career.

I chose Teesside University as my place of study because of the welcoming community. I am currently focusing on applying for a job and hoping that my time as an intern for Teesside International Airport will provide me with the best chance. I will perhaps move onto studying for a PhD, and of course continuing to volunteer as and when I can”.
