Welcome to the August Newsletter. We do hope you are making the most of your summer break and the lovely weather. Summer always brings a whole host of local events to enjoy and it is great to see so many activities scheduled in and around the Tees Valley.

Do Good, Feel Good
The volunteering team run events called “Do Good, Feel Good”. These are one off activities whereby the volunteering team and student volunteers, team up to give something back to the local community. We have carried out things like; clothing sales, litter picks, craft workshops, food drives. It is a great way to get to know each other, receive support and help a local cause.
Our latest event was a volunteering day with the Friends of Linthorpe Cemetery and Nature Reserve. Take a look here to read all about it.

We are working hard to link in with local charities to find even more volunteering opportunities. The need for volunteers is greater than ever. Volunteers help to provide that vital support which enables such valuable services to thrive. Here are some of the more recent opportunities on offer.

Founded in 1975 and now based at Middlesbrough Sports Village (MSV), we are a club located in the heart of the Tees-Valley. The Club offers a safe and supportive environment for athletes to pursue their track and field dreams, regardless of their level or prior experience.

Red Balloons focuses on helping those affected by mental health, both directly and indirectly. We use lived experiences to offer support and encouragement with finding ways to manage and cope with mental and physical wellbeing, through physical activities and a healthier lifestyle.

Tees Women Poets
We bring women of all backgrounds together to write and perform poetry, supporting them to grow their confidence, improve their mental wellbeing, and take up space.
Volunteering Support
If you need any support, please email volunteering@tees.ac.uk. As part of the Student Futures wider team, staff are available to talk to during the drop-in hours of 12-2pm Monday to Friday in the Student Life Building.

By volunteering just a few hours each week you can transform the lives of young children and their parents in your community.
Act as an Appropriate Adult for people with mental health needs and/or learning disabilities and other vulnerabilities who are being detained in custody, ensuring fair treatment in accordance with PACE guidelines / legislation 1984.
Independent Visitors are matched with a child in care based on location, age, and interests. Visits happen every 3–4 weeks, building a unique, trusted relationship over 2 years.
