I volunteer with Thirteen Group.  I was awarded a scholarship for my course fees and started volunteering after taking part in feedback from the scholarship academy and my story then helping them build on the process for future applications then progressed by being part of the customer engagement panel team. I believe it allows me to be part of community and feedback things that affect everyone who is part of Thirteen community.As part of my role, I can be asked to take part in meetings to discuss matters, policies, future plans and feedback on other areas within different areas of the organisation. This has recently included differences during COVID period into things that have changed, gone well and things that may need improving and ideas which could help them going forward.I have being able to build on some key skills such as communication which has developed from face to face meetings to a lot over video or phone calls to online things to complete. I have been able to time manage around my current commitments and adjust to changes for these tasks. It has allowed me to build on team relationships from a varied background and everyone own reason for taking part and how they can bring strength to the roles.I am enjoying the varied topics which are brought to my attention and being able to contribute to different matters but within useful situations to improve services and benefit the community. I am enjoying being part of a different team than I would normally be with and having their experience and advice help progress myself and my own key skills.Volunteering can enhance strengths and weaknesses and can be in areas that you would not think of initially. Whether it is 1 hour every other week or helping run a club every week everything makes a difference to the world we live in and by volunteering yourself you could inspire changes, other people to join in or build on your own self confidence.I am completing my degree in midwifery and take part in a range of volunteering and hoping to continue to do so throughout my student and graduate career. I am hoping by doing this it will enhance my own skills, networks and potential opportunities going forward.In addition to my volunteering, I am taking part in the employability awards through student futures which I am enjoying as well.I have developed a lot of key skills including communication, self confidence and networking skills.Volunteering is a great opportunity to take part in and with the support provided it is a great chance to take up during your student time as another accomplishment during your studies.
