Team Teesside STAR Awards 2025
The Star Awards brings together the annual presentations for long service and academic achievement, with a series of special awards that recognise the outstanding contributions made by nominated staff from across the University. If there is someone who you feel deserves to be recognised this year, now is your chance to help make it happen. Has someone gone above and beyond? Has a team, School or department gone that extra mile? Has a lecturer inspired you? Or is there just someone who is always happy to help out? Students can submit nominations in the following categories:

Volunteering Fair - Tuesday 11th February
On Tuesday 11th February, between 11.00 – 1:30 pm, we are holding a Volunteering Fair in the Exhibition Space, Ground Floor Student Life Building. Come along and chat to the Volunteering Team and to voluntary organisations about their available opportunities within the local community and within the university and find out how to get involved. There are many reasons why people volunteer – to help and inspire others, to gain skills and experience or just to have fun and meet people. Whatever your reason, make the most of your time at university, develop your skills and experience, grow your networks and enhance your CV. No booking is required – just drop by when it suits you.
Our stall holders will include:
Boro Angels
Boro Angels look out for those that are vulnerable and help however they can. This could be a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and offer mental and emotional support. The volunteers (who come from all walks of life) usually offer their services one Saturday night a month and work alongside Medics UK, Cleveland Police and the Door Staff who really appreciate their efforts in keeping vulnerable people safe.
FareShare North East
FareShare North East aims to address the issues of hunger and food waste by redistributing surplus food to local organisations across the North East. These organisations support vulnerable people in some way. The food is then transformed into delicious hot and cold meals or snacks for people who need it most.

Into University
IntoUniversity offers an innovative programme that supports young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods to attain their chosen aspiration, including further and higher education, employment and work-based training. Each centre is just like our very first: a local hub for young people, based on their doorsteps - with the newest one being in Middlesbrough!

North Yorkshire Moors National Park
The North York Moors National Park would like to bring together the communities of Teesside. The programme will: Support people to connect with nature and enjoy the National Parks. Deliver outdoor activity days and training events that develop skills, confidence and awareness of the benefits of National Parks - there is something for everyone! Deliver training sessions and provide resources to create a network of Community Champions, who can lead their own visits introducing their families and others to the beauty of the National Parks. Provide a new trainee opportunity working here at North York Moors National Park. Provide a variety of volunteering opportunities.

RDA Unicorn Centre
The Unicorn Centre is a registered charity, a purpose-built riding for the disabled facility which offers riding therapy and learning and training opportunities for over 150 disabled adults and children from the Tees Valley area each week. The Centre has become an established part of the local community, with a strong contingent of local volunteers who assist with riding lessons each week.

Community Champion Programme - Championing National Parks for All
Do you have a passion for the great outdoors and a motivation to support others in your community to visit the National Parks? Free Training for ethnically and culturally diverse communities to learn new skills. We would love to hear from you!
At the heart of the Championing National Parks for Everyone project. The Community Champion training programme will create a cohort of volunteers who can independently deliver safe, enjoyable and sustainable outdoor activities into the future. These activities might include easy-going walks, longer hikes, cycling sessions and adventure days; Community Champions.

February Half-Term Holiday Project Volunteer
We are a charity that harnesses the transformative power of play and exercise to help vulnerable children recover from complex trauma.
Volunteers will support children at Solidarity Sports projects during school holidays. In practice this may be running through playgrounds with our children, supporting them as they try bouldering for the first time, ice-skating, and many more fun activities. Volunteers will build a positive, trusting relationship with our children, and make them feel special and valued at all times during our projects.
Videographer
We are looking for a videographer or somebody with good social media marketing skills to work with us to create video content to be used on our social media platforms to promote what we do and coincide with International Women's Day 2025.
We will invite you to our head office to meet with staff and find out more about what we do and why, we will them work together to create a video campaign to be used in the week leading upto IWD.
You will be responsible for recording and editing video content to be used as part of our IWD campaign. The campaign will involve various members of staff, board members and potentially service users be speaking about this years IWD subject of Accelerate Action.
Health & Performance Centre Mentor/ Supervisor
This volunteering opportunity is to act as a mentor for less experienced clinic students and to help supervise students whilst they are developing skills.
You will take on some administrative and leadership responsibilities during clinics and you'll enhance your employability: the ability to mentor and manage are sought after across industries, as graduates can apply them in diverse roles. You'll promote your lifelong learning: As a future graduate acquiring new knowledge and skills will continue as your graduate career progress's.
