As an Energy Champion with our Affordable Warmth team, you’ll be central to helping people who are experiencing fuel poverty.

What You'll Do: 

The Affordable Warmth team helps households stay warm, safe and comfortable by supporting them to understand and manage their energy use. We offer practical advice, tailored guidance and referrals that reduce energy costs, improve home efficiency and address fuel poverty. Our aim is to give people the knowledge and confidence to make informed energy decisions, improve wellbeing and manage their home energy over the long term.

 

You’ll raise awareness of the support MEC offers, act as a trusted point of contact, and help reduce energy stress for those who need it most.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Helping to deliver energy awareness activities
  • Engaging with residents at events and drop-in sessions
  • Offering a range of practical guidance and support that can make a real difference to people’s day-to-day lives.

In addition to core volunteering training, more specialist training will be linked to the conversations you’ll be offering support around:   Carbon monoxide awareness Energy saving tips for the home Supporting customers to read and understand their bills Explaining the benefits of smart meters Data collection   There will also be the opportunity to access a 3-part online Community Energy Ambassador training course.
What We're Looking For: 
You’ll often be the first person people meet at events, so being warm, friendly and approachable is important. Good communication skills, confidence starting conversations, and a caring, non‑judgemental manner will help you thrive. You should feel comfortable communicating clearly in English when speaking with the public.
