Welcome to the organisation spotlight article! Volun-tees have been in partnership with Boro Angels since 2010 and we are pleased to report that all our students have had positive volunteering experiences right from the start. In the past, Boro Angels have scooped one of our Volun-cheer Awards for ‘Organisation of the Year’, which is a fantastic achievement.

Boro Angels look out for those who are vulnerable and offer to help. Often providing people with a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, water, flip-flops or even a lollipop! Assisting those who have emotional, mental health or addiction issues or those who are sleeping rough. The volunteers (who come from all walks of life) usually offer their services one Saturday night a month. In teams of 4 they are patrolling the town centre from 22:30 Saturday until 02:00 Sunday.

There are no specific requirements for volunteers. Boro Angels only ask for you to be non-judgemental, compassionate, and have a basic understanding of people’s needs. This opportunity will develop so many skills such as confidence building, communication, and teamwork! The volunteers really feel like they are making a difference and very much appreciated by Medics UK, Cleveland Police and Door staff alike.

The usual procedure for new volunteers is this: Initially shadowing the team to see if this role is for you. After the first observation you will be contacted to see how you felt and if you would like to undertake a second observation. You will be fully supported right from the start.
