The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) offers high-quality, low-cost food to everyone in East Cleveland and beyond. Our next Do Good Feel Good event will be supporting East Cleveland Good Neighbours with their community led foodbank

What You'll Do:

On Wednesday 29th April, we will meet at 10:45am in the Student Life Building Reception.

We will then take transport to Loftus in East Cleveland (about a 35 minute drive away).

The day will then look like this (roughly).

12pm – Unload the TBBT van into the venue (crates of fruit, veg, store‑cupboard items, etc.). There is lifting involved, and this is usually the toughest bit for our regular volunteers.

1pm – Packing the supplies. We set up three stations: one for fruit/veg, one for store‑cupboard items, and one at the refrigerated van for fresh produce. Volunteers pack bags based on community members’ pre‑orders. It’s all very smooth and organised—we usually prepare between 50–70 bags at each station.

1:30–2pm – A cuppa break (usually with cake!).

2pm – Distribute pre‑ordered food as community members arrive to collect.

2:30–3ishpm – Pack up, sweep up, and tidy the room.

3:15 - Leave the venue.

4:00pm - Arrive back to campus.

Why You'll Love It:
East Cleveland Good Neighbours is a community-led food bank providing emergency support for individuals and families struggling to access food across the rural areas of East Cleveland.    Visit The Bread and Butter Thing website to find out more. https://www.breadandbutterthing.org/    You will help to get affordable, nutritious food to families who need it. You are part of tackling food poverty and food waste at the same time. You will meet new people. You will work as part of a team. It will be good for your wellbeing. You will feel part of something bigger. You will be fully supported by the volunteering team.
What You'll Learn:
Teamwork. Time management. Customer interaction.  Hoe food supply chains work.  Building confidence.   You will come away with a blend of practical skills, people skills, and real-world awareness, plus the confidence that comes from doing a Do Good, Feel Good.
What We're Looking For:
Someone ok with some lifting and carrying.  Committment, we are providing transport so we need people who will show up so we can continue to do so for future events.  Approachable people, we are working with members of the public who may be going through a difficult time.  Volunteers who can create a welcoming environment.    529673908_1194934915999625_1478354197658974911_n.jpg Media Folder: Media Root
