Help us offer a free, in-person drop-in service for people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, or want to get their hearing checked.
2 Hours per month minimum commitment

What You'll Do: 

What you’ll be doing

As a hearing aid support volunteer, you will

  • attend our regular support sessions for hearing aid users.
  • Undertake basic maintenance on hearing aids such as cleaning or changing tubing, ear moulds and filters and replacing batteries.
  • Signpost other agencies that may be beneficial to the service user.
  • Complete relevant paperwork during support sessions.

What You'll Learn: 
What you’ll get in return As a volunteer you will make a real difference to the people you support. Receive training and learn new skills including knowledge of hearing loss, and hearing aid maintenance  Meet people in different situations in a variety of community settings  Raise awareness of deafness in the community. Have reasonable, out-of-pocket and pre-approved travel expenses  Apply your skills and learn new ones Volunteering gives you the opportunity to apply what you know about teamwork, communication and taking initiative – and learn new skills as well. These are valuable skills you can use in any workplace or team setting.  All volunteers have an induction and full training relevant to their role. There are also other courses and learning opportunities that might be relevant to your role.  Improve your CV  Volunteering shows your motivation and commitment. This helps your CV stand out when you apply for jobs. 
What We're Looking For: 
What you need You’ll need to provide the names of 2 referees who’ve known you for at least 2 years, Willingness to learn about issues affecting deaf people and people with hearing loss or tinnitus – particularly older people. Friendly, reliable and an approachable manner. Happy to work with a wide range of people.
