Assisting with data collection for a psychological research project with young children at the International Centre for Life Newcastle.

What You'll Do:

Travel with the researcher to the International Centre for Life in Newcastle to assist with collecting data. This will involve helping to recruit participants by sharing information about the study with visitors at the International Centre for Life. It will also involve helping the participants and their families with the information sheet, consent form and questionnaire, as well as answering any questions they have before participating.

This may be of particular interest to psychology students wishing to gain experience in conducting research, however, students from all courses may apply!

Why You'll Love It:
This is a great opportunity to gain some fieldwork experience in research and develop some transferable skills that would be beneficial to many different careers. It will also give volunteers the opportunity to practice and develop their communication and organisation skills. Since participants will be young children, it is also a valuable opportunity to gain experience working and communicating with children and their families.
What You'll Learn:
Volunteers will learn about conducting experimental research, as well as learn about the ethical and safeguarding considerations that are necessary to carry out fieldwork research with young children. Volunteers will also complete the TU safeguarding essentials online training, where they will acquire a certificate.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for some volunteers who are proactive, committed and punctual, with an interest in research and/or working with children. Good communication skills are not essential, but volunteers must be comfortable talking to people they have just met about the research (a full briefing will be provided).
