As part of this year’s Student Life Festival, we hosted a Warm This Winter, Do Good, Feel Good event. Over the past few weeks, we put out a call for donations to staff, asking them to have a sort-out and donate any saleable coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and boots. Donations soon began to pour in, and we knew we were going to be able to run a sale to be proud of.
Our student volunteers stepped up brilliantly. They were amazing on the day, chatting with fellow students, offering compliments, and being super friendly and approachable throughout. Thanks to their support, the sale had a warm and welcoming atmosphere really homing in on the Student Life’s festival theme of ‘connecting’.
All money raised will be donated to a local charity, The Unicorn Centre, which provides horse-based activities such as riding, equine therapy, and volunteering opportunities for young people and adults with additional needs in a fully accessible, state-of-the-art equestrian facility.
The sale also supported the University’s Sustainability Strategy, reflecting our commitment to reducing waste and supporting more sustainable ways.
Today, the student volunteers and the volunteering team made a fantastic team! None of us will forget the moment a student discovered a hidden button that lit up her Christmas jumper, endless laughter and festive joy.
We raised £40 for charity, which will go a long way toward buying hay nets or horse feed over the winter months.
