We loved celebrating Student Volunteering Week. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with students and explore the many benefits of volunteering, especially how it enhances employability and helps develop valuable, real-world skills.
Thanks to the strong partnerships we have built with community and campus organisations, we were proud to offer a wide range of meaningful opportunities through the Volun-tees platform. Showcasing these opportunities and seeing students feel inspired to get involved was amazing.
The BIG Community Dig with Middlesbrough Environment City was a true highlight of the week. We rolled up our sleeves and worked hard to clear the overgrown site, helping to make way for new community allotments. It was muddy, it rained, but it didn’t dampen our spirits one bit! It was fantastic to come together with our new friends from Refugee Futures, working side by side to transform the space into somewhere that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
Our LOVE Crafting event brought together an incredible 17 students, all volunteering their time to decorate heart-shaped coasters that will be donated to Teesside Hospice. A chance to bring a smile to people receiving end-of-life care and let them know they are in our thoughts. Spending time with the students also gave us a wonderful opportunity to connect, talk about their future aspirations, and hear more about life as a Teesside University student.
Staff generously donated saleable items so we could host a clothing sale, entirely run by our fantastic student volunteers and the volunteering team. Every item was priced at just £1, and together we raised £111.50, which will be donated to the British Heart Foundation. It is incredible what can be achieved when we all come together — providing affordable clothing, raising vital funds for charity, and supporting Teesside University’s Sustainable Futures Strategy all at the same time.
We hosted a range of Volunteering Roadshows and Find Your Future sessions throughout the week, creating valuable opportunities for students to explore how volunteering can shape their personal and professional journeys. It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from Middlesbrough Council and Teesside Hospice onto campus, giving students the chance to learn more about getting involved in the local community. Alongside inspiring International Volunteering talks delivered by our team at TU Global, the week truly showcased the breadth of opportunities available and how students can make the very most of their time studying at Teesside University.
