Daisy Chain support and empower autistic and neurodivergent individuals through the provision of holistic person centred services, whilst promoting training, wellbeing and inclusion. The Daisy Chain Megastores not only raises vital income and much needed funds but it also provides a base for the employability programme which supports autistic adults in developing employability skills and work experience in the shop floor and coffee shop.
The Megastore in Stockton is huge and when we approached them to ask if we could organise a volunteering day, they were over the moon! All the profits from the Charity shop are ploughed back into frontline services. Knowing this, we really felt like we were part of something special in helping our community to thrive.
The day started with a short taxi ride from campus to the Megastore. We had a safety briefing and tour and then quickly allocated to our tasks. Volunteering in all sections of the store to sort clothing and items, clean, litter pick, shop floor and customer service work. We worked together to make the area look amazing and what a difference we made. The day was very busy with customers so we enjoyed chatting to the people that were browsing and encouraging them to make a purchase.
Volunteering in a setting like this provides lots of skills and experience. Directly interacting with customers, answering their questions builds strong communication and interpersonal skills. Working with other volunteers and staff fosters collaboration and effective communication in a team environment. From start to finish, we had a great day and lots of laughs along the way.

Every Thursday, from 2pm until 5pm, we host the crisp packet project in our Southbank hub. Since starting this project, it has helped supply homeless people in our community with insulated sleeping bags, blankets, pillows and many more items.
You will gain valuable experience in meeting and talking to people in the local community. You will need to be flexible in your approach and willing to get involved in many of the ongoing actions we organise.
